Health Economics and Policy Impact Core

Cycle III

What the project is about:

A mom, son, and father in an embrace.

The main goal of this project is to assess the socio-economic impacts of Kid’s Brain Health Network (KBHN) funded interventions in children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) and their families. These interventions aim to improve children’s development, promote healthy outcomes, support family members and raise awareness.

The project team uses health economic approaches to determine and evaluate the costs, outcomes and cost considerations for the implementation strategy of interventions. In addition, this project collaborates with KBHN funded partners and the implementation team to assess the value of these interventions. The three main objectives are:

1. Evaluation plan for KBHN projects, implementation strategies and data collection for economic evaluation of KBHN research

2. Evaluation of KBHN projects and implementation strategies

3. Development of a KBHN policy playbook for KBHN projects

To efficiently allocate resources and inform decision-making, policymakers require evidence of which services and programs are in need and can be practically implemented. The team will work with KBHN staff to identify relevant policies to relay to local, provincial or federal decision-makers to help inform evidence-based decision-making in the health, social services and education sectors.

Communication with decision-makers on the economic impacts of research interventions that provide societal benefits is critical for this project. Thus, this core platform will collaborate with stakeholders and partners, including the public, decision-makers, clinicians, families and researchers. The goal is to mobilize knowledge to impact policy via publications in peer-reviewed journals, policy briefs, contact with the media, web-based communications and presentations, and meetings at the regional, provincial and national levels.
