The Canadian Research Chair on Disability Policy for Children and Youth

The Canadian Research Chair on disability policy for Children and Youth is led by Dr. Zwicker at the School of Public Policy and the Faculty of Kinesiology, University of Calgary.

The research program focuses on improving access to services that facilitate participation in society and improve wellbeing for youth with neurodevelopmental disabilities (NDD) and their families. Some of the core objectives of the program include:

  • Describe the needs of youth with disabilities, their families and how they access services, programs and supports

  • Understand barriers and facilitators to accessing services of youth with NDD and their families to improve implementation and policy reform

  • Identify priorities from stakeholders for policy reform and integrating service delivery

  • Co-design research, policy and evaluation of services and programs for families of children with NDD (and care communities)

Findings will inform policies on provincial and federal health, education and social service ministries to predict and plan for improved provision of efficient, equitable and inclusive services and supports for youth with NDD and their families.
